Jack Elliott continues to impress out on the pitch, and against San Jose Earthquakes, he put forth one of his best efforts in a Rookie of the Year caliber season.
In the 35th minute, with the Union trailing 1-0, Haris Medunjanin put in a cross off a short corner. The ball landed in a mass of people and bounced around before it found the foot of Elliott. He took a shot with his left foot, but it was blocked. Coming right back at him, he fired a shot with his right, and roofed it into the net for his first goal of his MLS career. It was also the first goal by a Union defender since Oguchi Onyewu’s goal against DC United on May 13.
In the 55th minute, Elliott once again got on the right side of a corner kick. Medunjanin served in a pass, and Elliott redirected his cross with a header. The ball fell right to Roland Alberg’s feet, who rifled a shot into the lower corner of the net to give the Union a 2-1 lead.
